Description:

The magic lantern, invented in the 1600s, was an early image projector that used painted or photographic images on glass plates. By shining light through these images, it projected larger pictures onto a screen. This device was an ancestor to modern slide projectors and played a role in both educational and theatrical presentations, sometimes accompanied by music for dramatic effects.
