Description:
This is a charcoal iron with a wooden handle is an antique ironing tool that first appeared in the 17th century. Made from durable metal like cast iron or steel, it features a hollow compartment designed to hold burning charcoal, which provides the necessary heat for pressing clothes. The wooden handle was added to protect the user’s hand from the heat, as wood does not conduct heat easily. To use the iron, hot charcoal would be placed inside, and the heat generated would warm the base, allowing it to smooth out wrinkles on the fabric. This type of iron was widely used before the invention of electric irons in the late 19th century and was obtained by the Al Faraj Gallery on the 22nd of December 2024
