Description:
This ceramic plate from Barcelona is a modern item inspired by the historical painting Dervish approaches his friend on the polo field. The original painting was a folio from the magnificent Jahangir Album, made for the Mughal Emperor Jahangir between 1600 and 1618 CE. The artwork illustrates the Persian mystical poem Guy va Chaugan (Ball and Mallet), which uses the sport of polo as an allegory for the profound relationship between a lover and the beloved. While the original painting has undergone significant repainting over the centuries, its enduring artistic and cultural significance is preserved in this ceramic rendition, which measures 22 x 22 x 4 cm and weighs 0.58 kg. It was obtained by the Al Faraj Gallery on the 21st of September 2025
