Description:
This set is an antique ewer and basin, likely originating from the Ottoman Empire, Persia, or Afghanistan. These sets, often made of tinned copper or brass, were traditionally used for washing hands and feet before or after meals and for Islamic ritual ablutions before prayer.
The pitcher-like vessel is known as an ewer or ibriq, and it was used to pour water over the hands and into the basin below. The basin itself is often designed with a raised, perforated center to catch and drain the water, which can be seen in similar examples. This type of set is also sometimes referred to as a lavabo set
