This object is a vintage metal water pot, traditionally known in India as a matka or matki. These spherical vessels were historically used by families, especially women in Rajasthan, to carry water from community wells or rivers back to their homes. They are typically handcrafted from iron, zinc, or brass, with hand-beaten metal panels shaped and riveted together in a skilled and time-consuming process. Many authentic examples date back to the 1950s or earlier.
