Description:
This is a vintage tobacco smoking pipe stamped R.F. Gus Pat. Off. , indicating it was a registered design produced in the United States, likely during the early to mid-20th century. The pipe is made from briar wood, known for its heat-resistant qualities, and features a classic bent shape with a smooth, dark-stained finish that reveals the wood’s natural grain.
The shank bears the R.F. Gus Pat. Off. marking, a standard trademark style of the period. It is fitted with a black vulcanite stem joined to the shank with a tenon connection, shaped to provide a comfortable hold.
Signs of previous use can be observed, such as a thin layer of carbon inside the bowl, often referred to as cake, which forms naturally from smoking. The pipe’s surface and rim show light wear consistent with age, and the stem retains its original form.
This piece reflects the style and construction methods typical of American briar pipes from the mid-20th century, with straightforward craftsmanship and a focus on functional design. It was part of Mr Faraj trips to Turkey to Switzerland in September 2025
