Smith Sectric Electric Desktop Watch, Made in England, 200/250 V.
The Smiths Group Plc claim an ancestry dating back to 1851 when a Samuel Smith had a shop in Newington Causeway, London, but it does not appear that Smiths considered the manufacture of domestic clocks seriously until 1931. Smiths are one of the first companies that produced synchronous electric clocks.
The “Sectric” Electronic Clock was produced in 1937 which was advertised using the phrase “Smiths Synchronous Electric Clocks” until January 1937 and “Smiths Sectric” from April 1937. At that time, Smiths were using a clockface type of a cartoon character in advertising their products.
