Tissa Hewavitarne - Sri Lankan Artist (+44 0776400233) Mr Hewavitarne is a self-taught artist, but has been influenced by cartoonists and artists G S Fernando, Susil Premaratne and Sarlis Master.
He started his career in Sri Lanka in 1958 as an advertising artist at J Walter Thompson (JWT) and worked his way up to a junior executive at Ravi Advertising. From there he went on to work part-time for Lankadipa newspaper and then later as a key artist for Udaya and Virakesari newspapers and as the advertising manager at Mahajana Newspapers. He also worked at the Sri Lankan Education Ministry, where he was responsible for the advertising section for the Akura newspaper, and later at the advertising department of the Associated Newspapers of Ceylon Limited.
In 1981 he moved to Bahrain, where he worked as a draughtsman at the Works and Agriculture Ministry. During his more than 20 years stay in Bahrain the artist also contributed cartoons to the GDN.
