In 1977 he received a diploma in art, specializing in drawing and painting, in Maharashtra. Since then Shirwadkar has been prolifically exhibiting his impressionistic landscapes. Oil on canvas is this artist`s favourite medium, although he has painted several watercolour works as well. Sometimes a palette knife instead of the regular brushes serves as a tool in helping him to create his realistic landscapes.
He is extensively traveled and has held solo exhibitions of his work in Mumbai, Chennai, Bangalore, Delhi, Varanasi, Cochin, France, Germany, London, Luxembourg, Belgium, Nepal, Switzerland and the United States of America. In 2000, he held his 50th one-man show at the Artpilgrim Gallery in New Delhi. At the same time he has participated in group shows too both in India and abroad. His works are also regularly included in domestic and international auctions of Indian Art, breaking records at auction houses like Sotheby`s and Christie`s.

Series 1 - Murud Janjira, Maharashtra Murud-Janjira is the local name for a fort situated on an island just off the coastal village of Murud, in the Raigad district of Maharashtra, India. It was occupied by the Siddis and is famous for being the only fort along India s Western coast that remained undefeated despite Dutch, Maratha and English East India Company attacks. The fort was originally built in the 15th century on a smaller scale by a local Maratha Fisherman Chieftain, Ram Patil to protect his people from pirates thieves and was known as Medhekot . He was a fearless man with independent bent of mind who was quite popular with the local fishermen. Size 35 x 23.25
