Eskander Dawani – Bahraini (1971 - ), Email tourist.fuzzy gmail.com Half English, half Bahraini, Eskander Dawani was born in Birmingham in 1971. He was raised in Bahrain and completed his studies in art and design at the American College, London, in 1994.
Eskander Dawani has always considered his artistic practice as a necessary emotional outlet of which he pursues mainly for its therapeutic benefit. When first faced with his work, this is wholly apparent as one witnesses his gestural marks, deep colours and psychologically charged portraiture. Despite being quite apprehensive in character, Eskander’s work is entirely expressive as he uses it to voice that of which he finds difficult expressing verbally. The sense of immediacy is clear as Eskander typically reflects on issues related to society’s shortcomings and the harm of social stigmas.
