Sumana Malakar,is a visual artist based in Bahrain known for her brilliantly painted canvases depicting human emotions. Sumana has been living in Bahrain for eleven years and is currently a teaching assistant at St. Christopher School.
Sumana takes her art form in both figurative and abstract styles. With strong surreal influences, she creates a universal harmony through her works. She has named her art works as Idha, which means insight. She believes that everyone perceives art in their own way and it is important to have a sense of intuition, conveying the spirit of the place or subject and an assured touch.
She considers Bahraini artist Abbas Almosawi as her role model and great source of inspiration. He favourite subect is human face and its emotions as well as horses as it gives her a sense of freedom.
She has participated in many group exhibitions in Bahrain and has bagged few prizes in a couple of exhibitions including Al Ali Art Fest, Al Rewaq Group Exhibitions, Qalat Al Bahrain Group Exhibitions, American Women Association of Art and Photography Exhibitions and Faces and Horses Exhibitions at the Bahrain Financial Harbour.
