Mohamed Buhasan is a Bahraini fine art photographer, cultural documentarian, and visual storyteller
whose work bridges the timeless beauty of tradition with the urgency of contemporary environmental
and cultural narratives. Born in 1973, Buhasan has spent over two decades using the camera as
both an artistic tool and a historical lens, capturing the disappearing textures of heritage across
Bahrain and the wider Gulf region.
He is the Executive Partner and Founder of Al-Warraqoon, a leading publishing house dedicated to
art books and photographic documentation of Arab culture. Through this platform, he has published
and contributed to over 100 visual books-ranging from heritage and architecture to biographical
narratives and educational works.
A recipient of multiple awards, including the prestigious FIAP Gold Medal and the Sheikh Mansour
Bin Zayed Award for Arabian Horse Photography, Buhasan has also represented Bahrain in
numerous FIAP Biennials and global exhibitions. His work Knight and the Flag and Still Alive
reflect his dual dedication to both national identity and human resilience.
Beyond exhibitions, Buhasan is a mentor and educator, regularly leading workshops in partnership
with the Fédération Internationale de l Art Photographique (FIAP), where he advocates for
photography as a tool of preservation, education, and cross-cultural understanding.
At the heart of his practice is the belief that photography is a universal language-one that can
archive memory, inspire dialogue, and build bridges between people and place. His artistic focus
remains rooted in environmental storytelling, folklore, and the poetic tension between what is fading
and what must endure.

Description:
This is a beautiful photograph by prominent Bahraini artist Mohamed Buhasan, captured in 2015 somewhere deep in the tribal heartlands of the Omo Valley, Ethiopia. This powerful portrait reveals not just a man but a guardian of tradition, rooted in heritage and resilience.
With a blade in hand adorned with intricate beadwork and standing before his wooden home, his posture conveys dignity and strength. Behind him, another figure observes quietly, a moment suspended between stillness and silent pride. According to the artist, he regrets not recording the name of the tribe at the time, but the memory of their presence and the stories etched in their expressions remain unforgettable.
