Mentmore Fountain Pen - The Auto Flow Made in England Black with golden design barrel and cap and silver clip with Mentmore engraved logo. Mentmore are or were the parent company of Platignum, this was a brand name used on their cheaper general market student range of pens, many with either tipped or folded point untipped steel nibs from 1926-8ish, may be a year or two earlier. Mentmore s upper range pens over the years were the Diploma, the Auto-flow, the Supreme, Imperial and a couple of others, they did several Ladies pens in smaller sizes the names of which escape me just now. The Auto-flow was effectively the button fill version being similar in size and furniture, the nibs were in general but not always roughly the same size and of the same quality as the Diploma, the other open nib pens with the Mentmore name on them like the Supreme are either uncommonly seen and or rather later.

Conway Stewart Fountain Pen Made in England Brown with floral design pattern barrel and cap and golden clip with Conway Stewart engraved logo. Conway Stewart Company Ltd was a British manufacturer of writing instruments, founded in 1905 by Frank Jarvis and Thomas Garner in London. Models produced in this era are made for the high-end of the market and feature precious metals, enamels and casein or celluloid plastics and 18ct gold nibs. Notable models include the Churchill. 58 series, the Duro series, the Dinkie series and the 100 series, all styled after the original models. The Churchill being based on the larger red ripple hard rubber versions from the vintage conway stewarts. The brand was purchased by Don Yendle over a period of 3 years from 1994 to 1997.

Wahl Eversharp Pen Made in USA, Gold Filled Gold barrel and clip with engraved laurel leaves. The name WAHL-EVERSHARP is a proud one in the history of writing instruments. EVERSHARP, the inventor and first successful mass marketer of the mechanical pencil, goes back to 1915. WAHL was the brand name given to some of the finest fountain pens ever made and goes back to 1917. The hyphenated name WAHL-EVERSHARP first appeared on some of the finest golden era fountain pens in 1929. The Deco Band, the Doric and the Skyline fountain pens of the 1920’s, 1930’s and 1940’s were among the most successful fountain pens and mechanical pencils ever made. So competitive was the playing field of pen manufacturers in the golden era that new designs, new materials, and new colors were in perpetual development. Producing the best fountain pens, like many other consumer goods in the early to mid 20th century saw the involvement of notable industrial designers such as Lowey and Dreyfus. The makers of WAHL-EVERSHARP pens employed both men in the 1940’s. Mr. Dreyfus is responsible for the design of the world famous SKYLINE pens.

E Faber - Reform Pen E. Berhard Faber Made in USA Eberhard Faber GmbH was founded in 1922 in Neumarkt, near Nuremberg, Germany, as a pencil factory. It was taken over in 1978 by Staedtler, a stationery company with global presence. Eberhard Faber s popular US writing pencil operations were founded in New York City in 1861, by the East River at the foot of 42nd Street, on the present site of the United Nations building, by John Eberhard Faber (6 December 1822 – 2 March 1879). This factory was acquired by Faber-Castell USA in 1994 before being bought by Newell (Sanford) and eventually rolled into the Paper Mate brand. Leonard E. Read (1898-1983) in his 1958 Essay I, Pencil detailed the economic ‘Free Market’ benefit to the world economy of a ‘Mongol 482’ Eberhard Faber pencil.

Parker - Arrow Black barrel with metalic silver head and arrow clip. 51 Style There are in fact three models of Parker pens that goes by the name of Arrow. The first one was a Canadian pen, produced during the 1950 s, with many similarities to both the Parker 51 and the Vacumatic. It was in fact very similiar to the Parker VS which sold in great numbers and also was an open nib alternative to the Parker 51 . The Canadian Arrow was also an attractive pen indeed. It came with a solid color barrel, probably black, green, red and blue and possibly grey. They sported a Parker 51 style

Gillotty Vintage Dip Pen Black barrel with Gillot’s logo Joseph Gillott s is a company based in Birmingham, England, which has been manufacturing high-quality dip pens since 1827. The company is currently part of William Mitchell Ltd. Joseph Gillott was a working cutler in his home town Sheffield, but in 1821 he moved to Birmingham, where he found employment in the steel toy trade, the technical name for the manufacture of steel buckles, chains and light ornamental steel-work generally. About 1830 he turned his attention to the manufacture of steel pens by machinery, and in 1831 patented a process for placing elongated points on the nibs of pens. Subsequently Gillott adapted the stamping press to the requirements of the manufacture, as cutting out the blanks, forming the slits, bending the metal, and impressing the maker s name on the pens. He also devised improved modes of preparing the metal for the action of the press, tempering, cleansing, and polishing, and, in short, many little details of manufacture necessary to give them the required flexibility to enable them to compete with the quill pen.
