This camera is part of Mr. Faraj s trip to France from the 25th of August to September 2023. The Minolta 5000 (called Maxxum 5000 in the USA and ?-5000 in Japan) was a budget version of the Minolta 7000. Many of the more advanced features of the 7000 and 9000 were left out on the 5000. The Minolta 5000 uses Minolta A-mount lenses and has both Program and Manual exposure modes. A remarkable fact is that this camera seems to have been sold together with a Minolta AF 50mm 1 1.7(22) lens (6 elements in 5 groups), probably an autofocus relative of the famous 50mm 1 1.7 Rokkor. Most later autofocus SLR models were sold with a zoom lens. A special feature of this AF Minolta is that it can be switched to a manual focusing mode in which additional red LED indicators in the viewfinder assist setting correct distance. Correct distance of the image centre is indicated by the green autofocus-confirm LED that also works in autofocus mode.

When you think of waterproof electronics from the 1980s, most people would think of the yellow SPORTS Sony Walkman. With a similar look to older scuba diving gear, many other electronics manufacturers seemed to follow this bright yellow aesthetic. Minolta was no different, creating a weatherproof camera for each of the popular film formats, 110, 35, and APS, for the 20 plus years the Weathermatic line was in production. The first entry in this all-weather camera line was the 110 film, 1980 Minolta Weathermatic A. This camera was part of Mr. Faraj trip to France from the 25th of August - the 10th of Sept. 2023

Pentax announced the ist D digital SLR on 26th February 2003, the week before PMA 2003. The ist D is essentially a digital version of the ist film SLR announced the week before. The major physical difference between the two cameras (apart from all the digital controls on the rear of the ist D) is that the ist D appears to have a heavier metal subframe. Although expected to be on the shelves by July 2003 the camera has been delayed (twice) due to procurement of materials required (Sony s sensor ). The ist D is the first digital SLR Pentax has brought to market, they did announce and show a pre-production digital SLR a couple of years ago but that project was cancelled in favour of the ist D we see today. The ist D is currently the smallest and lightest digital SLR, it measures just 129 x 95 x 60 mm (5.0 x 3.7 x 2.3 in) and weighs 650 g (1.4 lb) including batteries (no lens). The ist D has a the same six-megapixel (Sony ICX413AQ) sensor used in the Nikon D100, it has a Pentax K lens mount and supports K, KA, KAF, and KAF2 lenses. It is also possible to use screw mount lenses, 645 and 67 series lenses with an adapter.

The Pentax Super-A, also sold in some markets as the Pentax Super Program was a 35 mm single-lens reflex camera produced by Pentax of Japan in the 1980s. It is not the same camera as the slightly lower-specified Pentax Program A (which also had an alternative name, the Pentax Program Plus .) The camera offers fully automatic exposure ( program ) mode when coupled with an appropriate Pentax-A series lens. With such a lens the camera also offers shutter-priority mode, and with any compatible lens (i.e. Pentax-M lenses in addition to the Pentax-A series) the camera offers aperture-priority and fully manual modes. The shutter speeds, selected by up down buttons rather than the conventional wheel, run from 1 2000 of a second to 15 seconds, plus a bulb mode. There is flash synchronisation at 1 125 of a second. Unlike the camera s most direct predecessor, the semi-automatic Pentax ME-Super, this model cannot function at 1 125 of a second, or at all, once the batteries have been exhausted. Speed is displayed on an LCD panel on the top of the camera adjacent to the buttons (which also shows whether the camera is cocked), and both speed and aperture are visible on LCD displays inside the viewfinder. These receive natural light through a translucent plastic window on the pentaprism housing and can be electrically lit at the press of a button. Also in the viewfinder, centred, is a split image focus aid surrounded by a microprism ring. A further improvement over the ME Super was the inclusion of a depth-of-field preview lever. The camera also featured a self-timer, which was electronic rather than the manual lever of its predecessors. The available ISO film speed choices were extended too, and run from 6 to 3200 ASA. As with the previous M series cameras, there is a window next to the winder arm which indicated film movement, and assists the user in rewinding film into the cassette without losing the tip of the film. Metering is through the lens. Camera also features direct TTL flash metering. The Super A version was available with a black top-plate (and matching base), the Super Program version was available with a chrome-coloured top-plate (and matching base). The main body, plastic grip, and lenses were always black. The European camera of the year version(1983) had a small round brass plate on the front lefthand side of the body. This all came with a lens cap and strap with the European camera of the year insignia.

The Olympia Japan DL2000A is a scamera designed to look impressive in magazines or on late night television, and to be sold by mail order for US 60-70 on the principle that there s a sucker born every minute There were at least three variations of this camera (all illustrated in the instructions) the second variant is the Yoshiba with two buttons in front of the trigger, and the third has a small LCD screen. They were often sold as a kit in a brightly coloured box with extravagant claims, a carry bag or plastic camera case, a lens hood, a lens cap, a tripod ( ) and a large and very ostentatious flash. The wheel marked Digital on the left hand side (of the photo) engages the film rewind motor. It is unlikely that the wind mechanism could handle a 36 exposure film because the film plane is curved. All three variants have two strange features A reflex viewfinder (laterally reversed), and a lens barrel that moves backwards and forwards as the aperture is changed. (Of course the lens which is probably meniscus, does not move.) They exist under several names including Canomatic which is generally believed to be a brand used by the New Taiwan Photographic Corporation (Ouyama)
